A troll is surrounded by five wolves one night in the deep forest. The illustration was published with the fairy tale "Nern trollmor skötten kungens storbyk" by Elsa Beskow in the fairy tale collection Among Elves and Trolls in 1914.
John Bauer is known for his fairytale motifs with goblins and princesses and he has had a great influence on Nordic folklore and storytelling.
