Poster with an illustration from a French fashion magazine in 1923. On the illustration you see the text Alcyone. Robe et manteau du soir, de Worth - French for Alcyone. Evening dress and coat, by Worth .
Alcyone is the brightest star in the constellation Taurus. Worth was one of the foremost and most influential fashion houses of the 1800s and early 1900s. The designer behind the fashion house was called Charles Frederick Worth and came from England. He is considered by many fashion historians to be the originator and father of haute couture.
The illustrator of this iconic fashion image is called George Barbier. He was a very prominent artist from France celebrated not least by Vouge for his contribution to the world of fashion during the early 20th century. The model, Ida Rubinstein, was a very famous Russian ballerina and a public figure in cultural Paris during La Belle Époque.
