Abbott Handerson Thayer is known today for his ethereal angels, portraits of women and children, landscapes and delicate floral paintings. This poster with the painting Angel was created by Handerson Thayer in 1887.
The picture is both a portrait of his daughter Mary at the age of eleven and an allegory of hope and spirituality. Thayer manipulated the color of the painting using brushes, scrapers, his fingers and even a paint tube to achieve his effects.
