Poster with August Strindberg's painting Wonderland from 1894.
Until 2010, Wonderland was the most expensive Swedish painting ever sold at auction in Sweden. The work was sold in 1990 for SEK 22.6 million by the Bukowskis.
When Strindberg embarked on creating this piece, his initial vision was to depict "a shaded forest interior with a glimpse of the sea at sunset." However, as the painting evolved, he realized the absence of the sea. Instead, in the luminous central section, he discovered "an endless expanse of pink and bluish light, inhabited by ethereal, indistinct beings floating like fairies in veils of cloud." Strindberg observed that the forest had transformed into a cave, and the foreground resembled rocks adorned with lichen.
August Strindberg (1849-1912) was a Swedish writer, playwright and artist. He is considered one of Sweden's most important writers, internationally known primarily as a playwright. Several of his works are considered classics in Swedish literature.
Black collection are selected motifs where we replaced the white passepartout with a black one to highlight the motif in a modern and unique way.
