Poster with a vintage photograph taken in 1961 by Sjöberg.
The photograph captures a moment behind the arena at Cirkus Schumann, where an impressive dressage act is practiced before the audience's expectant cheers.
In the center stands a stately horse lifting its front leg in a perfectly balanced movement, while the rider sits still and focused on its back. Opposite stands the trainer, dressed in a circus uniform, with his gaze directed at the horse and the reins carefully in his hand. The spotlight from the circus ceiling falls in a dramatic cone, illuminating both animals and people in a way that enhances the magic of the moment. The empty crowd in the background tells us that this is a moment of preparation, a silent rehearsal before the arena's jubilation is filled with applause and music.
Cirkus Schumann was at the time one of Europe's most prestigious circuses, known for its elegant riding acts and its skilled riding school. The image conveys the discipline, closeness and communication that lies behind every performance where the art of collaborating with an animal requires both trust and precision.
