Poster with the painting Cows by Nils Kreuger (1858-1930). Nils Kreuger was a famous Swedish landscape painter with a background from the Royal Academy of Arts and from a private art school in Paris. Kreuger spent his summers on Öland where he often painted landscapes, horses and cows.
The longer Kreuger was active, the more the motifs became focused on dusk, rain or fog. His first exhibition was in Paris in 1882.
Kreuger was a supporter of the Opponents, a group that opposed what they considered to be outdated methods at the Royal Academy, and active in the creation of the Artists' Union.
In 1887, Kreuger returned to Sweden with the goal of finding a quiet place to paint. He settled in Varberg where, together with Richard Berg and Karl Nordström, he created what would come to be known as the Varberg School. After a few years, Kreuger moved to Stockholm where he lived until his death in 1930. Nils Kreuger was the cousin of the well-known businessman Ivar Kreuger.
