A beautiful drawing with the heraldic coat of arms for the province of Gästrikland from the 19th century.
Gästrikland's regional coat of arms depicts a moose. The coat of arms was added at Gustav Vasa's funeral procession in 1560. The coat of arms is part of the coat of arms of Gävleborg County together with the provincial coat of arms of Hälsingland.
Gästrikland is located in eastern Sweden and borders Hälsingland, Dalarna and Uppland. Gävle is the region's largest city and serves as the region's economic and cultural center. Historically, Gästrikland has been an important region for iron handling thanks to its rich deposits of iron ore and forests that provided charcoal for smelting the ore. Already in the Middle Ages, the iron industry was established here, and during the 17th and 18th centuries, ironworks such as Ockelbo and Hofors flourished. The landscape's ironworks played an important role in Swedish industrial development.
The text above the coat of arms reads: Coat of Arms of Gestrikland. At the bottom left it says: "Sweden's National and Country Coat of Arms. Established by the Royal Majesty. After drawings by Prof. M. AD. Hildebrandt in Berlin. Published by Carl Arvid Klingspor."
