Gotland's Country Coat of Arms

A beautiful drawing with the heraldic coat of arms for the Gotland region from the 19th century. 

The Gotland regional coat of arms, which was reintroduced in connection with Gotland becoming Swedish at the peace of Brömsebro in 1645, depicts a ram. The coat of arms is taken from the first known Gotland seal from 1280, and depicts a variant of the Agnus Dei motif (Latin for "Lamb of God" and refers to Christ as a sacrificial lamb in his crucifixion).

Gotland is Sweden's largest island and is known for its rich history, its unique nature and as a popular tourist destination in Sweden. Visby, which is the island's largest city, is famous for its well-preserved medieval city wall and is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Gotland's history stretches back to ancient times. The island was an important trading place already during the Viking Age and has therefore also been an important economic and cultural center in Europe.
