Poster with the photograph The high guard in 1942. For the first time, Hemvärnet stands for the high guard at Stockholm Castle. It's Matthew's home guard and Norrmalm's food industry guard who are on duty and a little boy thinks it's funny to walk next to them. He mimics when the home guard marches onto the castle grounds.
On May 29, 1940, the Riksdag decided to form a home guard, which had already been done in Denmark and Norway. The Home Guard would consist partly of young people who had not done their conscription and partly of men who had exceeded the conscription age.
