Poster with an illustration from Lasse-little in the garden, one of Elsa Beskow's many beloved children's books from 1923.
In the motif, we see the strawberry family greeting their relatives the strawberry. An excerpt from the story about the motif:
Strawberry Father, so red and close, his hat proudly on his neck, makes a little trip out to the donut hill. The children after, trip, stairs, trull, big sister, lull, lull, lull, lightly tripping on their heels…
Granny at the height of the hill with her small group stands and laughs happily and contentedly: "Mother, who can it be?" Mother she whispers: "Hush my dear, it's the family, lull, lull, lull, rich families only."
Elsa Beskow was a well-known and much-loved Swedish author and illustrator who wrote and illustrated over 40 books that have become classics in Swedish children's literature. Lasse-little in the garden is part of a long series of stories in which Beskow depicts children's adventures in nature, with a mixture of realism and fantasy.
Similar to many of her other works, this work is filled with detailed and beautiful illustrations that complement the poetic text. The theme revolves around the joy of discovery and the child's relationship to nature, something that was consistent in Beskow's work. Through Lasse's adventure, the reader learns about the garden's various plants and animals, while the book conveys important values such as respect for nature and an understanding of its cycles.
