Poster with fashion illustration from Le Moniteur de la Mode, 1886. Le Moniteur de la Mode was a French fashion magazine published on a weekly basis during the 19th century. In Swedish, the magazine's name means Modemonitorn . All the illustrations in the magazine were done by the French artist and illustrator Jules David (1808-1892).
In the picture we see two women in beautiful, exclusive dresses on the streets of Paris. Paris has been the capital of fashion for 400 years. The fact that Paris in particular became the center of the fashion industry is partly due originally to the fact that wealthy people around the world wanted to dress like they did at the French court. Particularly famous for her influence on trends and fashion is Marie Antoinette - the last queen of France before the French Revolution. Haute couture was established in the middle of the 19th century .
