Poster of Back to Nature, a nude culture film from the 1930s. On the poster it says Nakenkulturfilmen: with a talk by Professor Johan Almkvist and pictures from Stockholmsföreningens Bad-och Sportsplats.

Johan Almkvist (1869-1945) was a Swedish doctor and professor at the Karolinska Institutet. He was known for promoting nude culture or naturism, which advocates the minimal use of clothing.

Naturism was born at the beginning of the 20th century in Germany and France, and received a boost after the First World War. In 1932, Johan Almkvist published a book on the subject, which made him a public figure. He argued for nudism, as better resistance to infections and a de-dramatization of sexuality. Almkvist argued that total nudity would reduce erotic allure compared to partial undressing. This would in turn reduce to less sexually transmitted diseases and desired pregnancy in society.
