Poster with the painting Troll on a walk by John Bauer. In the picture we see a troll standing in a dark and snow-covered winter landscape. Behind him the deep spruce forest is spread out.
The painting was an illustration for the fairy tale "The boy who harnessed the troll for the sled" by Harald Östenson and was published in Between tomtar och troll in 1907.
"The boy wanders into the deep forest and comes to the goblins' cave, but as he is not receptive to their temptations they have no power to keep him, but are forced to bring him home.
- Come with me, and I will show you a shelter, where there is joy and no sorrow, said the troll".
It appears that the goblin is holding up his right hand to "beckon" the boy to follow him. The troll must guide the little boy through the dark troll forest to the promised shelter.
John Bauer is known for his fairy tale motifs with trolls and princesses and he has had a great influence on Swedish folklore and storytelling.
