The Journey of Bar Iron into the World
This was Stockholm’s iron gateway to the world. At Järngraven beside Slussen, bar iron from Bergslagen was weighed on a large scale before being loaded for export; trade was conducted here from 1662 to 1865. Julin’s watercolour thus also preserves traces of one of the city’s most important export terminals.

The story behind the motif

Poster with the painting "View from Slussen" from the year 1840 painted by Johan Fredrik Juhlin, a Swedish artist known for his lithographs and landscape paintings. 

The picture shows a view of Slussen in Stockholm, seen from the Old Town with a view of the water and Kastellholmen. We can see people moving along the quay, and various small boats and sailing vessels are scattered in the harbor. The painting is a valuable documentation of Stockholm during the 19th century and emphasizes the importance of the city's maritime activities during this time.
