The Final Journey in 1967
Twentieth Century Limited made its final journey in 1967. The service was discontinued only months before New York Central merged into Penn Central, making the end of the night train part of a larger upheaval in American railway history. The celebrated flagship disappeared just before the company that had built its identity.

The story behind the motif

The famous Twentieth Century Limited steam locomotive at the New York Central sometime between 1920-1950. The Twentieth Century Limited was one of the world's most famous trains and a luxury travel option for upper class and business travelers commuting between New York City and Chicago, Illinois along the Water Level Route railroad.

The phrase "red carpet treatment" comes from how passengers walked on a specially designed, deep red carpet. On the train, travelers could go to the barber and buy secretarial services.
