Before the White Buses
When the image was taken on 15 June 1940, Folke Bernadotte led the Swedish Scout Association. Five years later, the same scout leader became a central figure in the Red Cross White Buses, which brought thousands of prisoners out of Nazi Germany. The hand sign was used in the Scout promise – an international custom that lives on.

The story behind the motif

Poster with an old photograph from the 1940s. In the picture we see Folke Bernadotte, 1895-1948 Head of Sweden's Scout Association. Here with three scouts in scout uniform doing the scout greeting from Bernadotte: Be ready! and answers with the answer: Always ready!
