Six Years Before the Peak
In 1940, the tram was still Stockholm’s obvious backbone. Six years later, the network reached its peak with 21 lines – but during the same decade the city decided to build a metro. The first metro line opened as early as 1950 and began replacing the suburban tramways that had helped build the city.
