The Ice-Cream Giant Opened That Same Year
The advertisement is from 1957 – the same year GB opened what the company’s own history describes as Scandinavia’s largest ice-cream factory, in Flen. Choklad-Thule had begun producing individual ice creams in factories as early as 1928 and had been part of the company behind GB since 1942. The old chocolate name thus lived on in advertising while ice-cream production was industrialized on an entirely new scale.

The story behind the motif
Poster with an illustrated ad for Mid-Target . The motif is a colorful newspaper advertisement from 1957 for the company Choklad-Thule.
.
The company Choklad-Thule was founded in 1910 and was behind products such as Plopp, Roman arches, Tulo and Mums Mums - things we all recognize and love. The product on the ad is reminiscent of biscuit chocolate or American KitKat. Choklad-Thule was also Stockholm's first ice cream manufacturer, which through a merger in 1942 became GB Glace.
