Vétheuil Became an Emergency Stop
Vétheuil became Monet’s emergency stop: financial difficulties had forced him to move there in 1878. When he painted this canvas in 1880, it was still three years before his move to Giverny, where he would live for the rest of his life. In the lower right corner, he signed and dated it laconically: “Claude Monet 80”.
