A Sunset Under Time Pressure
The idea was born after Albert Edelfelt and his wife Ellan had seen an “enchanting” sunset from Kaukola ridge on Midsummer’s Day in 1889. But the painting itself proved more difficult than the moment: in his letters, Edelfelt complained that the sunset lasted so briefly that the view left him at a loss.

The story behind the motif

Canvas with the beautiful painting Sunset by Albert Edelfelt from 1890.

In the painting we see a beautiful view of Kaukola ridge in Tavastland, Finland. Edelfelt went to Kaukola because his wife Ellan did not like Haiko in Borgå. From Edelfelt's letters, which are preserved in the archives of the Swedish Literature Society, it appears that he was unfortunately not very happy in Kaukola.
Albert Edelfelt was one of the first Finnish artists to achieve international fame. As a 19-year-old, Edelfelt went to Antwerp in 1873 to study history painting. He then continued his painting studies in Paris, where in 1800 he received, among other things, a medal for the painting Ett barns likfärd (1879).

If you order from Norway, your order will be delivered with Fedex; to Sweden and the rest of the world with DHL. Your package is normally delivered to your nearest pickup point!
