The story behind the motif
Canvas with the painting A Girl with Flowers on the Grass by the Dutch artist Jacob Maris. In the picture we see a girl sitting in a summer meadow with wild flowers in her hands. She is wearing a white summer dress and a blue bow in her hair. The girl was the artist's daughter. Jacob Maris painted the work in 1878. He is considered to have been the most important and influential Dutch landscape painter between the years 1875-1900.
