When Readiness Was Increased
In 1943, Swedish neutrality was anything but passive. When transit traffic carrying German soldiers through Sweden ceased in August, military readiness was increased, and throughout the year the army called up units for exercises in order to have more immediately deployable troops. The image from Norrbotten belongs to a year when winter preparedness was highly tangible.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a beautiful picture of a snow-covered landscape from 1943. In the picture we see Swedish armed soldiers in snowsuits skiing in the Swedish mountains.

The soldiers are from the Norrbotten regiment's hunter battalion and they act as extras during the filming of the film On life and death .
