The pastel that could crumble away
Krøyer sent this pastel to the Paris Salon in 1884, despite calling the medium a loose powder. In a letter, he worried about the transport and suggested that, if the colour fell off, it could be worked back together with the fingers. The reviews were strong, but the work nevertheless remained unsold.

The story behind the motif

Canvas with the painting Summer evening on Skagen's beach of the famous Danish artist Peder Severin Krøyer.

The painting shows a group of fishermen relaxing on the beach on a summer evening. In the background, some pull up a boat.

Peder was born in Stavanger to Norwegian parents but grew up as a foster son in Denmark with his sister and Danish brother-in-law Krøyer, whose surname he came to adopt. Peder developed into one of Scandinavia's leading painters.

If you order from Norway, your order will be delivered with Fedex; to Sweden and the rest of the world with DHL. Your package is normally delivered to your nearest pickup point!
