The story behind the motif

Poster with the “Duke of Albany's” illustration showing the flags of the British 72nd Regiment which was an infantry regiment in the British Army. 

The left flag is the British "Union Jack" which was used to represent Great Britain. The right flag is the regiment's own colors and symbolizes the important battles or campaigns in which the regiment took part.

The flags refer to the specific military campaigns in which the regiment participated. These colors were carried through victory in Afghanistan in 1842 and during the Indian campaign of 1846, which were two important military conflicts during this time period.
