The story behind the motif

One of the most famous aircraft ever produced , the Supermarine Spitfire is a British fighter designed by Reginald Joseph Mitchell in the 1930s.

The plane is mainly known for its action during the Battle of Britain and was one of the most important fighter aircraft of the war. The British Spitfire struck fear into German pilots as the fighter combined speed and power with superb maneuverability. Top speed was 594 km/h.
