The story behind the motif
Poster with a design sketch of the iconic American carriage manufacturer Brewster & Company. Of all the American carriage makers, none was so highly regarded for design, finish and quality as Brewster & Company.
The company was founded in 1810 by James Brewster in the United States and flourished under generations of family leadership. By 1874, Brewster & Company had successfully expanded their business to produce their own cars and supply bodies to Rolls Royce. Prominent clients included Alfred Gwynne Vanderbilt, August Belmont, JP Morgan, John Jacob Astor, Andrew J. Cassatt, William Rockefeller, Henry Clay Frick and Pierre Lorillard.
