A Driving Licence Without a Test
In Britain, motorists could still obtain a driving licence without first demonstrating their driving skills. The compulsory driving test was introduced on 1 June 1935, after voluntary tests had been tried during the spring. For a British car from the early 1930s, the rules of the road were therefore considerably freer than they are today.
