The story behind the motif
Poster with a beautiful painting created by Albert Edelfelt in 1877. The painting is called Drottning Blanka and is one of Edelfelt's most famous paintings.
The painting, which depicts a woman with a small child in her lap, illustrates Zacharias Topelius' story The Nine Silver Pennies about Queen Blanca of Namur and Prince Håkan .
As a 19-year-old, Edelfelt went to Antwerp in 1873 to study history painting and continued his painting studies in Paris the following year. It was then in Paris, in 1877, that Edelfelt created this painting.
