The story behind the motif
Poster with one of LM Ericsson's advertising posters from 1929. The illustration shows a new compact desk phone model that Ericsson produced influenced by French Art Deco. The exclusive Art Deco style developed from the Paris Exhibition in 1925 and in 1929 Ericsson produced this refined telephone model.
The basis for the new model is the 1909 tin telephone that has been refined in both surface and shape.
The chrome-plated, slightly loose and elongated handset gives a sense of sophisticated upper-class life. Ericsson director Karl Fredric Wincrantz is associated with this device, which goes by the designation "Wz".
The phone was made in few copies but was used all the more diligently in various advertising contexts to raise the prestige of Ericsson's phones. The southern Kungstornet in Stockholm can be seen in the background of the poster. The building was erected as headquarters for Ericsson in 1925 and was one of Stockholm's first high-rise buildings.
