The story behind the motif
The year is 1944. The Second World War is in full swing. In Sweden, artist Erikz stands and looks out of the Bergström villa's window, which was smashed last night when Russian aerial bombs were dropped over Stockholm.
The Bergström villa was an artist's house in the Eriksdal area, Södermalm in Stockholm. The bombings of Stockholm and Strängnäs in 1944 were a military incident when Soviet aircraft bombed several locations in Stockholm and eastern Sweden. Opinions are divided as to whether the bombing was accidental or as a provocation and warning.
