The story behind the motif
King George V at the helm of his sailing yacht Britannia during Cowes Regatta Week in England in 1924. George V lived between 1865-1936 and was King of Great Britain and Emperor of India.
Cowes Week is one of the longest and largest regattas/racing races in the world where everything from Olympic professionals to amateurs compete. The event has been held annually since 1826 on the Solent in the small town of Cowes on the Isle of Wight, southern England.
