The story behind the motif
Gustav Adolfs torg and Norra Hamngatan in Gothenburg in 1910.
In the picture we also see the Stora Hamnkanalen. Straight ahead on the left is Gothenburg's Town Hall and the old Court of Appeal. On the right we see the Stock Exchange or the Stock Exchange House as it is sometimes called.
All these buildings, including the harbor canal, are very old and date back to when Gothenburg was founded in 1621. The town hall was completed in 1672 and was designed by the famous architect Nicodemus Tessin the Elder - Sweden's and Stockholm's first city architect. He has also drawn Drottningholm Castle.
