The story behind the motif
Poster with the illustration "Lapland express" designed by Nils Hansson (1875–1947) from 1914.
Hanson was a Swede poster artist and graphic artist, known for his advertising and travel illustrations during the early 20th century. He was particularly active during a period when railway companies and tourist organizations used posters to promote travel and attractions.
The poster promotes The Lapland Express, a train service between Stockholm and Narvik in Norway, which was part of the Swedish government's promotion of the northernmost railway in the world. The train was also connected to steamers sailing towards North Cape, which gave tourists the opportunity to explore the northernmost areas of Sweden and Norway.
