The story behind the motif
Poster with the painting Marstrand , created in 1893 by the Swedish artist Olof Sager-Nelson. The beautiful motif conveys a summer idyll in Marstrand.
After an unsuccessful attempt to study engineering at the Chalmers Institute of Technology in Gothenburg , Sager-Nelson chose in 1887 to train as an artist. 1888–1890 he studied at Valand's art school under Bruno Liljefors. Through good recommendations from Carl Larsson, Sager-Nelson came into contact with the Gothenburg patron Pontus Fürstenberg and received financial help from him.
Sager-Nelson was inspired by synthetism, which meant simplifying the arrangement of a work of art into superficial color fields to create a better synthesis in color and form.
Artist: Olof Sager-Nelson | Created: 1893.
