Oscar II was king during a period when Sweden underwent a period of industrialization and rapid technological development, as well as when the union between Sweden and Norway weakened and finally dissolved. The period is sometimes referred to as the Oscarian.
Oscar Björck was a Swedish artist and professor at the Academy of Fine Arts 1898–1925, and from 1918 also vice president of the Academy of Fine Arts.
