The story behind the motif
Poster with the painting Our Daily Bread by the iconic Swedish artist Anders Zorn (English official title: Our Daily Bread ).
Our daily bread came about after the National Museum encouraged Zorn to paint a "motherland" subject. The watercolor shows that Zorn was influenced by the sharp realistic painting of French naturalism, but the motif is taken from Dalarna. The models in the picture are relatives of the artist with his grandmother in the foreground. Zorn had everyone dress in vintage costumes to create an atmosphere he remembered from his childhood that would inspire the result.
Anders Zorn was a significant artist in Sweden and was also successful internationally, not least in the USA, where he was hired to paint portraits of presidents, business leaders and society.
