The story behind the motif
Poster with a drawing of an orangery that was built in 1767 on Södermalm in Stockholm, commissioned by the wholesaler Charles Tottie. The building was located at the corner of Ploggatan and Bondegatan, where it was probably part of a private garden. Unfortunately, the house does not remain today.
The orangery was a popular building type during this time, especially for those who had larger gardens and wanted to protect their plants from the winter. The building reflects the tasteful and functional design ideals that were popular in the 18th century for private villas and garden buildings.
Frame not included.
