The story behind the motif

Posts with a famous propaganda poster against the proposed alcohol ban before the referendum in 1922. In the picture we see the text "Prohibition destroys country and people. Therefore vote no on 27 Aug".

At the beginning of the 20th century, there was a lively debate about the high alcohol consumption in Sweden. This led to this referendum on the prohibition of alcoholic beverages in Sweden on August 27, 1922.

There was a very even result in the election and a lower turnout than many had hoped for. 48.8% voted in favor of an alcohol ban and 50.8% voted against an "introduction of complete intoxicant ban".
