The story behind the motif
Post on Stockholm stream where the royal palace is visible in the morning mist. In the foreground you can see sailing ships at anchor. Cedergren is famous for his ship portraits which can be found, among other things, at the maritime history museum . Before he became known for his art, he worked as a ship's boy and a carpenter's apprentice, among other things.
The royal family (especially Charles XV) took a liking to Cedergren's art and later bought him a small farm in Drottningholm, where he spent the rest of his life.
