Before Paid Holidays
In the 1930s, Sweden still had no statutory annual leave. It was not until 1938 that employees gained the right to two weeks of paid holiday – a decisive step towards the Swedish summer holiday. A break during the working day was therefore something quite different from the time off that would soon become taken for granted.
