When the Arms Were Sewn in Silver
As early as 4 November 1660, Ångermanland’s coat of arms existed as an elaborate textile work by the pearl embroiderer Nils Stare. Preserved at the Royal Armoury, the example is made of silk, silver thread and pearls—a reminder that provincial arms could be splendid objects long before they became familiar printed symbols.

The story behind the motif
A beautiful poster with it heraldic coat of arms for the province of Ångermanland from the 19th century.

Ångermanland was represented in the procession at Gustav Vasa's funeral in 1560 by a salmon jumping over a net. During Johan III's time, this was changed to three salmon.

The text above the coat of arms reads: Coat of Arms of Ångermanland. At the bottom left it says: "Sweden's National and Country Coat of Arms. Established by the Royal Majesty. After drawings by Prof. M. AD. Hildebrandt in Berlin. Published by Carl Arvid Klingspor."
