A name that dates the picture
The name Burnham, Parry, Williams & Co. is a small timestamp: it was used by the owners of the Baldwin works in Philadelphia from 1873 to 1890. When Charles T. Parry left the firm, the name was shortened to Burnham, Williams & Co. The company name in the image thus captures a brief period in the history of an otherwise constantly expanding locomotive giant.

The story behind the motif

A locomotive from the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia in the 19th century. The company sold steam locomotives between 1825-1956, and was the world leader for decades. When demand shifted to diesel-powered locomotives, they could not maintain their competitiveness and filed for bankruptcy in 1972.
