A Letter from Hôtel Paradis
On 16 April 1891, Albert Edelfelt wrote an eight-page letter to his mother from Hôtel Paradis in Cannes. The painting is from the same year and the same city, during the spring when the family travelled along the Riviera – shortly before they left Paris for Helsinki.

The story behind the motif

Canvas with the beautiful painting From My Window in Cannes by Albert Edelfelt. In the picture we see people in period clothes walking along the La Croisette promenade.

From the beginning, Cannes was a small fishing village on the French Mediterranean coast, but in the middle of the 19th century, British and also Russian aristocracy discovered the city and came to spend most of their winter time here.
