The Publisher Kept the Original
This watercolour was made as the cover of the children's magazine Julbocken 1912. Publisher Erik Åkerlund often made his commissions conditional on keeping the originals—and this particular work was bought directly from Bauer for the Åkerlund family's collection, where it then remained through inheritance.

The story behind the motif

John Bauer made several paintings depicting Santa Clauses and Santas. He created this painting in 1912 and is called the Christmas Goat . The illustration was the cover of the Christmas magazine of the same name when it was first published.

John Bauer is known for his fairy tale motifs with trolls and princesses and he has had a great influence on Swedish folklore and storytelling.

If you order from Norway, your order will be delivered with Fedex; to Sweden and the rest of the world with DHL. Your package is normally delivered to your nearest pickup point!
