The canal that became a street
The East Harbour Canal was a remnant of Gothenburg’s Dutch-inspired urban and fortification plan. Its northern section was still there when Aron Jonason photographed the scene, but it was filled in in 1936 when traffic required more space. What appears as water and a bridge in the older cityscape thus later became part of the street network.
