Demolished for Citypassagen
When Grand Hotel Haglund was demolished in 1972, more than the hotel façade disappeared. The main building on Södra Hamngatan was demolished together with the houses on Drottninggatan to make way for Citypassagen. The demolition thus transformed an entire section of the block, not merely the well-known hotel address that had taken shape there since the nineteenth century.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a unique image of the Grand Hotel Haglund in 1900, seen from Hotelplatsen Gothenburg.

The hotel was built in 1808 as Bloms Hotel. In 1899 Aktiebolaget Göta Källare & Grand Hotel Haglund was formed to run the hotel business, which also led to the hotel changing its name to Grand Hotel Haglund in the same year.

Grand Hotel Haglund was very magnificent, with a lot of luxury and quality, for example there was a swimming facility that was also open to the public, restaurant dining rooms, grill, bar, cafe, social room, a party floor and more. The hotel was demolished in 1972.
