A brief technological shift
When Olga Rinman took this photograph around 1900, the horse-drawn tram was already on its way to becoming history: Gothenburg’s tramway was electrified in 1902. By then, the hotel had borne the name Eggers for only about six years, following its reopening on 5 November 1894.

The story behind the motif

Poster with a view of Drottningtorget in Gothenburg with Hotel Eggers and Östra Nordstaden . The horse trams were in use until 1902 when the tramway was electrified.

Hotel Eggers is one of Sweden's oldest hotels that is still in operation. It is also one of the country's few remaining hotels from the time when the railways were built.

In 1886, art history was written at Hotel Eggers. It was the so-called Opponents who, in the artist Anders Zorn's hotel room - room 134 - formed the Artists' Union.
