A Book Published After Its Author’s Death
The plate was included in Nouveau Duhamel, a French tree handbook that began publication in 1801 – nineteen years after its namesake author, Henri-Louis Duhamel du Monceau, had died. The illustrations were made by Pierre-Joseph Redouté, the botanical painter who became known as the “Raphael of flowers”.
