The story behind the motif
Poster with an atmospheric picture from Oslo Harbor in 1950. The fog is dense over the harbor and a thin layer of snow is on the ground. Two ships are moored at the quay - Stamsund and SS Hestmanden.
The steamer SS Hestmanden is the only preserved ship that sailed in convoys during both the First and Second World Wars. As the last remaining ship from Nortraship's (Norwegian Norwegian Shipping and Trade Mission) fleet, the ship represents a central part of Norway's wartime history and is an important conservation object. The Hestmanden is perhaps the most valuable veteran ship in Norway.
