The story behind the motif

Poster with a vintage illustration of a peacock (Pavo muticus), a bird known for its impressive plumage. The bird's spectacular tail feathers are used to impress females during mating season. 

The picture comes from the book "The Naturalist's Library" by Sir William Jardine, published in 1836. Part of a series of books aimed at documenting and illustrating wildlife from around the world, the book was one of the most comprehensive natural history series of the time. Sir William Jardine (1800-1874) was a Scottish natural historian, zoologist and author who was an important figure in natural history literature.
